Lakatabu project is making great progress and on track for completion in 2010. Civil works on the site is tremendously progressing well. Mechanical erection has also started and on track.

Lakatabu Expansion Project

The new cement 2.2metric tonnes plant, code-named, Lakatabu is twice the capacity of the existing Ewekoro plant (1.0MT) and it will allow Lafarge Cement WAPCO to double its current overall capacity to 4.2mt to keep pace with the growth in the Nigerian cement market.

 

SCOPE:

A)
Construction of a brownfield Cement Plant at Ewekoro to produce:
- 5.000mt per day / 1.55Mt per annum of Clinker
- 2.2MT per annum of Cement with a C/K of 1.4

 

B)
For effective running of the plant without power problem:
Construction of a new Power Plant at Ewekoro with 90MW installed capacity (76 MW effective capacity):
-50 MW to power the new line (6.6kv)
-26 MW to power the existing line (11kv)

 

C)
Construction of a 4.7km long double conveyor belt to transport limestone and shale between the quarry and the new cement plant

Improvements of the existing cement plant at Ewekoro:
- Additional power capacity 
-Clinker silo of 60kt capacity
-Coal grinding mill

 

Expected Completion Date

 

The pace at which constructions work is moving at site gives us no doubt that the project will be completed on schedule.
The construction phase commenced mid 2008 and it is expected to be finalized by second quarter 2011.
