Lagos: 21 May 2009: Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc on Thursday, 21 May 2009 signed a €225 million (N45 billion) Syndicated Underwritten Multi Currency Medium Term Facility through which the Company intends to expand its Ewekoro Plant (the Lakatabu Expansion Project).



 

A total of eighty youths from the local communities around Ewekoro Plant received scholarship awards and youth empowerment materials worth N2 million at a presentation ceremony held at Agbesi Estate, Ewekoro Plant on Thursday July 5, 2007. As part of year 2007 Community Development programmes targeted at youths in the area, scholarships of N50, 000 each were presented to forty indigent students in tertiary institutions, while the remaining forty beneficiaries who were artisans got relevant materials ranging from motorcycles to deep freezers, pharmaceutical products, salon wares, computer sets, and generating sets to aid their respective vocations.

West African Portland Cement Plc is exploring the possibility of an expansion programme that will lead to an increase in the current cement capacity by four (4) million tonnes per annum in response to the increasing demand for cement in the Country, and to demonstrate LafargeÂ’s belief in, and commitment to the Nigerian market.

High Chief Bayo Akinnola – Chairman Npma Mfr

High Chief Bayo Akinnola, the Lisa of Ondo Kingdom, is the Chairman, Board of Directors of WAPCO. He graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1960 after which he proceeded to the University of Manchester, England. He has occupied different management positions in various organizations including Nigerian Tobacco Company. He has served on the Board of many companies. He became a member of the Board and Chairman on 7th November 2003.
